   Swimming is great fun for children and it provides a lot of mental and physical benefits. Children love to swim at the swimming pool or the beach. Where do you usually swim? In Britain, an indoor public swimming pool or a building that contains such a pool can be called a “swimming bath”. When you were very small, your parents might have taken you to a paddling pool (“wading pool” in American English) which is a shallow pool for children to play in. When you go for a swim, you need swimwear, a swimming cap (“bathing cap” in American English), and a pair of goggles. The swimwear for boys is called “swimming trunks” or “swim shorts”. The swimwear for girls is called a “swimsuit” or a “swimming costume”. If you are a beginner, you should take some floating devices with you. The most common one is a swimming ring (also known as a “lifebelt”). Can you swim? Which styles can you do, freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke or butterfly? Splish, splash, splosh – swimming is a lot of fun, but drowning can happen easily. Even you know how to swim, drowning is still a real danger. To stay safe in the water, always have an adult watch you. Do not push people or jump on them. Otherwise, you can hurt them or cause drowning. Do not swim in water that is too deep.
