Honour your father and your mother ( Exodus 20 :12 )
Rose, Daisy and William’s parents adored their children and always taught them the values of kindness and respect. They also emphasized the importance of appreciating everything they did as a family.   Every morning, Rose, Daisy, and William would wake up with smiles and greet their parents with joy.   One evening, Rose helped her mum prepare dinner and decided to express her thoughts. "Mum, thank you for working so hard to take care of our family," she said.   Her mum smiled warmly. "You're welcome, Rose. It means the world to me that you appreciate our efforts. We do it because we love all of you so much," she replied.   Encouraged by her mum's response, Rose continued, "I want to help more around the house. I want you to know that I truly value your hard work."   The following day, Rose shared her newfound understanding with her siblings. Excited by Rose's idea, Daisy approached her dad during dinner and said, "Dad, can I set the table every evening?"   Her dad's face beamed. "Of course, Daisy! That's a fantastic idea. Your contribution will show how much you appreciate our family, and it will be a great help."   Meanwhile, William approached his mum and said, "Mum, can I help with the laundry from now on?"   His mum's face lit up. "William, that's such a thoughtful gesture. Yes, you can help me with the laundry. It will make things easier for me, and we can spend more quality time together."   This loving family realized that even the smallest acts of kindness and gratitude could strengthen their bond and make their home a truly special place   Message Think on behalf of father and mother and do what they want without being asked.   Bible verse Honour your father and your mother. Asymptomatic - First encounter with Greek prefixes in English
初探英文希臘字根:Asymptomatic
Knowing the relationship between Greek roots and word formation in English 認識希臘字根與英文造字的關係 T : Thomas |M : Mickey   T: Hi Mickey! What are you up to?   M: I’m enjoying my afternoon tea here. Can you spare some time?   T: Oh, sure.   M: Ah Thomas, by the way, did you read the newspapers today? It’s reported: Despite the number of influenza confirmed cases is coming down, there should be quite a few invisible virus-carriers, those asymptomatic carriers. What does this word, asymptomatic mean?   T: It’s one of those English hybrid words with the Greek prefix - a-, meaning not, non, un, to negate the basic meaning of the word, which in this case asymptomatic actually means no symptoms.   M: It’s something new to me. Can you give me some examples?   T: Sure. I can think of the following, to start with: asymmetrical; atypical and even abnormal, where the ab is a variation of a.   M: Wow! I haven’t come across something like these.   T: Haha! It’s time you should read more books.

Avoid mixing up the usage of “below” and “following”
避免混淆「below」和「following」
Distinguish between using “below” and “following” 區分「below」和「following」的運用 T  : Thomas.  M :  May M : Hi Thomas! Great to bump into you here. So crowded here!   T : I guess it’s a kind of flea market. Let’s move over there.   M : Sure. But before we do that, can you answer a question for me? I saw just now a couple of signs over there, right by the entrance, and I somehow found the English not quite in order. I took a shot of these. Take a look.   T  : Hmm…(taking a glance of the photo)"Please read the below terms and conditions before using the mobile charging services"   M : What do you think?   T  : Well…we can’t use the word “below” like this, because “below” is a preposition and can function as an adverb, but not as an adjective. So, for this sentence the word “following”, which functions like an adjective, should have been used, or the sentence could be rewritten, for example: “Please read the terms and conditions as indicated below…”   M : Thank you, Teacher! You explained so well.   T  : Time to move over there through the crowd. Are you ready?   M : 嗨,Thomas!很高興在這裡碰見你,這裡很熱鬧 !   T  : 我想這裡應該是跳蚤市場。我們不如入內逛逛。   M : 好的。不過,我們入內之前,我想請教一下,我剛才在那邊入口,看到一些指示,有些英文句子好像有些不妥。我拍了照片,請你看看。   T  : 嗯⋯⋯(瞥了照片)"Please read the below terms and conditions before using the mobile charging services "   M : 你覺得怎樣?   T  : 其實⋯⋯這情況我們不能使用「below」,因為按英文文法,「below」屬介詞,充當副詞的作用,它不是形容詞。因此,這句應該改用具有形容詞作用的 「following」,或者改寫句子, 例如:「Please read the terms and conditions as indicated below⋯⋯」   M : 謝謝謝老師!你解釋得很好。   T  : 是時候越過人群入內逛逛,你準備好好了沒有﹖

Dressed to the nines
How to dress for different occasions can be a headache, particularly for adults. Can your parents wear the same outfits for a wedding and a funeral? Should they be " dressed to the nines " when attending your graduation event at the end of term?  The saying " dressed to the nines " means dressed very elaborately or smartly. However, etiquette experts advise that the dress code for a graduation ceremony is neat and thoughtful, but not excessively fancy.  The phrase is believed to be related to the shorter one " to the nines " , which meant to the highest standards. It was found in " Epistle to Ramsay " by the Scottish poet William Hamilton in 1719. The following extract means that the beautiful lines (of a letter) that you sent me made me perfectly happy.  The bonny Lines therein thou sent me,  How to the nines they did content me.  It's possible that " to the nines " originates from the Nine Muses. The Muses were Greek goddesses who gave artists, philosophers and scientists the inspiration to create.  Soon after the graduation event, the summer holiday will begin. May I wish you a relaxing and fun holiday. The bonny Lines therein thou sent me,  How to the nines they did content me.  To the nines有可能源自「繆斯九女神」。繆斯是希臘女神,她們給予藝術家、哲學家和科學家創作的靈感。 畢業禮結束後不久,暑假就會開始。祝願你們有一個輕鬆愉快、有趣好玩的假期。    捐款支持公教報  http://kkp.org.hk/donation
