Tempus Fugit. Time Flies.

刊登日期: 2012.02.19
作者: Fr. Thomas Au 區耀邦神父

It is that time of the year again.  Time really flies.  A year ago my bishop called me back early from Taiwan because one of the priests was very sick and he wanted me to take over his parish for Lent(四旬期).  Reluctantly, but obediently, I came back.  Now, a year and a different parish assignment later, I am preparing to enter the beautiful Lenten season to reflect on the sublime love of Jesus.

Time flies.

A couple of Sundays ago, Jan 22, the first reading was from the book of the prophet Jonah 《約納先知書》.  We are very familiar with the story.  I have two things for you to think about.

As you prepare for the celebration of the birth of Jesus by making a good and sincere Confession and attending Mass on Christmas, I would like to extend your thoughts further, into the week after Christmas.

Saint Nicholas or Santa Claus

刊登日期: 2011.12.04
作者: Fr. Thomas Au 區耀邦神父

Do you still believe in Santa Claus(聖誕老人)?  It is for kids only, you know.  There is no Saint Nick living in North Pole riding around the world in a sleigh pulled by reindeer.
Well, part of that is true. St. Nick does not live in North Pole, etc.  But we, as Catholics, do believe in Santa Claus.  It is just another way of saying Saint Nicholas or Nikolaos.  In other European countries it was simply shortened to Santa Claus.
Saint Nicholas(聖尼古拉斯)lived in the 3rd century in Myra, a city in present day Turkey.  He was a wonderful bishop.
