Last week we looked at Rom. 10:14-15 (“And how can people preach unless they are sent?”) and considered the role of the bishops and priests as teachers of the truth. This week we will look at the content of the truth being passed on.
Rom. 10:17, “faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ.”

7th Sunday of Easter or Ascension

In many parts of the world, (including Hong Kong), Ascension Thursday is no longer celebrated as a holy day on the Thursday 40 days after Easter. Instead, it is moved to the following Sunday, thus replacing 7th Sunday of Easter and the reading of the Gospel for that Sunday. I would like to share with you my reflection on this beautiful text from Jn 17:20-26. This took place after the Last Supper. In Jn 17, Jesus prayed with them and in verse 20-26. He said,

The Virtue of Obedience

With these words, Jesus gave Peter and the Church the responsibility to “feed” His lambs both in His Word and the Holy Eucharist. In Mt 28: 16-20, Jesus gave the mission of “teaching everything He had commanded” to the apostles.
