Each culture has different wedding ceremonies. In the Chinese culture, we offer a cup of tea to the parents of the groom and, when possible, pay respect to the ancestors. That’s it.

Marriage, Children and the Virtue of Love

What does sex have to do with love? Does one have to love someone in order to have sex? What should constitute marriage and family? These and other related issues have become confusing and contentious. Some people do not think there should be any restrictions on the act of sex, that actions in the privacy of the bedroom between two consenting adults should be totally private and not subject to rules and regulations.

Virtue ? 德 行

Yes, there is the word “virtue” when we, as Catholics, talk about love – while the pop culture (continuing from last article) does not include it. Therein lies the HUGH difference.

 The Beautiful Mother

By Fr. John Foley, S.J.

The beautiful Mother is bending low

where her Baby lies

Helpless and frail, for her tending;

But she knows the glorious eyes.

Tower of Babel

Do you remember the story of the Tower of Babel in the book of Genesis, how God confused the language of the people and they scattered all over the world? (Gen. 11:1-9)

What was their motive?

They wanted to build a tower to reach the sky to “make a name for themselves.” (Gen. 11:4) They wanted to be remembered as someone who has accomplished something memorable. They were afraid that they might be forgotten.

In the last few weeks, we looked at what faith and hope should mean to us as Catholic Christians. Jesus showed us that our faith is an encounter with Him who is God becoming man. Our faith in Him and His Promise is the foundation for our hope of what life is really about. Pope John Paul II wrote in the opening paragraph of his encyclical “Faith and Reason”(《信仰與理性》通諭):
