刊登日期: 2014.02.23

This article will not deal with the commonly known superstitions like fortune telling, reading horoscope, wearing good luck charms, etc. Rather, I would like to comment on our day-to-day little superstitious habits.

Happy New Year - belated

It’s never too late to wish you all a happy new year. (「有心不怕遲,十月都是拜年時。」)

With a new year, I would like to focus the next few months’ writings on some reflections on the Ten Commandments, beginning with the first Commandment, “I am the Lord your God. You shall not have strange gods before me.”

It has been reported to me ..... that there are rivalries among you. ( 1 Cor. 1:11 )

T h i s i s f r o m t h i s Sunday’s second reading. It is interesting that people often thought romantically about the early Church. The fact is that it was a time of difficulties, from outside the Church and from within. The Church suffered two hundred years of persecution by the Jewish leaders as heretics and by the Romans as superstition compared to their religion. From within the Church, they had to settle theological issues on who Jesus was as well as new practices based on the theological convictions.

We return to the ordinary life with the warm glow of the Christ child fresh in our minds.

Maybe not.

Feast of the Baptism of the Lord

刊登日期: 2014.01.12

With this feast, we jump thirty years from Jesus’ birth to the start of His public life. Matthew’s Gospel told us that Mary and Joseph took Jesus to Egypt to escape from Herod. On their return, they lived in Nazareth. When Jesus was twelve years old they went to Jerusalem where the incredible event of Jesus staying behind at the Temple took place. He had an encounter with the leaders of the Temple and they found His grasp of faith astounding. St. Luke next told of the account of the Baptism of Jesus when He was thirty years old.

Last week we looked at preparation during Advent with the empty crib. The next couple of weeks have to do with filling the crib. Mary and Joseph will arrive at Bethlehem. There will not be room in the inn for them.
The Census.

Advent –preparing for Christmas

刊登日期: 2013.12.01
作者: Fr. Thomas Au 區耀邦神父

This Sunday, we begin the season of Advent. We will take a few weeks’ break from consideration of moral issues. The reason for this is that our approach to morals has to do with responding to Jesus, who came to lead us home to the Father. So it would be good to take a look at the birth of Jesus as the foundation of our morals.

Cultivating a sense of beauty

刊登日期: 2013.11.24

Last t ime, we considered the proper informing of our conscience. There is a part of it, it seems to me, to have been taken for granted and not fully appreciated. Our conscience has to have a sense of beauty.
