What would you do if you were Philip?

Philip waited for ages to have his dream mobile phone. He finally got the model he longed for during Christmas which was just a couple weeks ago. Santa Clause was nobody else but his dad. I t was a deal(協議) agreed between Dad and Philip that if he could save up one-third of the cost of phone, Dad would chip in(湊錢)by doubling the amount. It was not an easy task at all. Philip calculated, there were only two effective and efficient(收效大)ways to cut down on his daily spending. He needed to wake up a lot earlier so as to pack his own lunch, and take a more time-consuming but less expensive transportation to school. After a few months, his monetary goal(財政目標)was achieved.
Upon receiving his new phone from his dad, Philip promised to take good care of it and also not to get addicted(耽溺)to the apps which he was eager to download. He had to use his phone wisely too. Philip made this promise not only to Dad, but to himself too.
Not long after, a sad accident took place. Someone bumped (碰撞)into Philip in a crowded MTR train and his phone fell onto the ground. The screen was c r a s h e d a n d t h e p h o n e malfunctioned(機能失常) instantly. Without any choice, Philip had to switch back to using his old phone.
What would you do if you were Philip?
  • I’d tell my dad what happened and request for another chance for me to save up my allowance(零用錢) with the same generous(慷慨)portion of topping up. After all, there was no fault(錯處)on my side.
  • I’d tell my dad what happened, I’d leave it to him to offer me another chance or not. After all, if an accident took place, I could not force another person to bear the consequence(後果)with me.
