What would you do if you were Irene?

Grace had a big secret(秘密) that she never told anyone, she kept it to her all along because she thought it was a shame(恥辱)to be known(公開). She started to have a feeling for a boy in the next class, but he did not even know her name. Grace believed that it was wrong to have a crush on(暗戀)someone at her age. Due to this, she could not concentrate(集中)on her work, she kept thinking about the boy and how wrong that was. One day, she could not endure(忍受) anymore, she shared her secret with her best friend Irene.

What would you do if you were Irene?

  • To avoid(避免)my best friend from feeling so bad, I’d go to the boy and let him know that someone was interested in him and encourage (鼓勵)him to take action. If he’d be interested, a love story would be started because of me. If he’d not be interested, it’d save(節省)Grace's time in thinking about him. I would not even tell Grace what I had done.
  • If I promised my best friend to keep a secret, I must keep my mouth shut and not telling anyone else. At our age, it should not be the best time to be dating, our parents or teachers will not approve(贊許)it. Instead of(與其)giving Grace any advice, I’d just listen and be understanding about her feeling, try to feel what she felt. I would not agree or disagree with anything. My response would be “That must have made you feel terrible” when she complained to me how bad she felt.
