As we begin to refresh our English, we want to remember some basic rules which will help us speak and write English very well. English is a living language so it changes according to the time and place where people speak this language.

We begin by learning to greet people in the proper way.

Usually we greet a person by his given name, example, ‘Good morning, John’. If we do not know him well, we say, ‘Good morning, Mr. Chan’.

If the person is older than us, or to show respect, we say, ‘Good morning, Mrs. Wong’.

To call Sr. Helen Chan in English, we say, ‘Sr. Helen’. Not ‘Sr. Chan’. We may use her full name, ‘Sr. Helen Chan’.
