Speaking of Paris, most people will immediately think of
the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. There is, of course,
much more to see and experience in this city of great historical
and cultural significance. Its historic buildings, museums, art
galleries and cafes attract around 45 million visitors every
year.
There are a myriad of beautiful churches in Paris. The
most famous one is the Notre Dame Cathedral(巴黎聖母
院), which was the inspiration for Victor Hugo’s novel “The
Hunchback of Notre Dame”(鐘樓駝俠). Completed
in 1345, it witnessed a lot of historic events like the
canonization(封聖)of St. Joan of Arc and the coronation
ceremony of Napoleon I and his wife Joséphine. I also visited
Sacré Coeur, which is located at the highest point of Paris,
and La Sainte-Chapelle, which is famous for its 13th-century
stained glass windows.
There are also a multitude of museums and galleries in
Paris. No visitors in Paris will skip the Louvre, as it is wellknown
for its glass pyramid and Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona
Lisa. The Louvre Palace is truly magnificent! I also paid a visit
to Musée de l’Orangerie to see Monet’s Water Lilies and Musée
d’Orsay, which houses the largest collection of impressionist
(印象派)and post-impressionist masterpieces(傑作).
I would really love to spend more time in Paris, strolling
along the River Seine or spending a lazy afternoon in an
elegant café savouring a cup of coffee!
